Seattle Coffee Works107 Pike Street Seattle, WA 98101 |
On May 22, 2012, Reviewer Matthew Campisi says:So immediately out of SeaTac, and after a long flight, I proceeded directly to Seattle Coffee Works. The shop is nestled snugly between two Starbucks and right around the corner from scores of other shops. I was immediately greeted by a warm, cozy, wood-dominated environment where I could easily approach the smiling face at the counter, explore the retail shelf, or peek into the little cave of a slow-bar. Sebastian greeted me warmly, and lit up even more when I asked him about the components of the espresso - obviously a coffee-impassioned gentleman excited to be asked serious questions about his craft. Anthony, over at the Synesso, had Colombia Huila San Augustin and Seattle Space Blend in the hoppers and was eager to describe the differences and nuances of both. It was quickly decided that I had to experience both. Although the Colombia's crema appeared pale and uninteresting visually, it offered a very flavorful red grape and fuji apple sweetness which was quite pleasant on the palate, if slightly lacking in body -- overall, a very unique and worthwhile SOE experience. The Space Blend (which was described as a Brazil, Sulawesi, natural Yirgacheffe blend), was a much more typical, well-balanced espresso. The natural Yirg took the forefront immediately with a strong mixed berry flavor which faded into a milk chocolatiness with delicate hints of key lime tanginess in a very pleasant balance. I chatted at length with Anthony and Sebastian about manual brew recipes before retiring to the comfy seating area. This is definitely a must-hit when you're in the downtown Seattle area -- great product with knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate people serving behind the bar. Cheers! |
