General FAQ - Reviewer FAQ

What is tehCoffee
tehCoffee is a website to find competition level coffee near you.

Who the hell are you to tell me what competition level coffee is?
Good question. tehCoffee is a series of reviews by competition level judges all over the place. Also, full disclosure, I own Neptune Coffee, so go get coffee there.

So what are these competitions you speak of?
The SCAA hosts a series of barista competitions every year to crown the US barista champion. The US barista champion goes on to compete in the World Barista Championship.

Great! How can I review shops on tehCoffee?
Become a SCAA judge, or equivalent. Then

Oh. How do I become a SCAA judge?
Ah, wait for next year's regionals, and sign up to judge. => http://www.scaa.org/?page=events

So What do I do here exactly?
find great coffee around you by region

Eh, I already love my favorite coffee shop - Neptune Coffee and would never go anywhere else.. What else can I do?
View all coffee shops
View the top baristas
Check in to shops you go to
Generate a random coffee crawl (coming soon) (maybe)
Score cappuccino art, and see how you score with our judges (coming soon)
Keep a list of your favorite shops

What do Baristas have to do with this?
Well, the reviewers can link a review to the barista that made the drink. The drink scores and the personality scores from that review will be associated to the barista. This is an opt-in procedure only. The reviewer MUST get the approval of the barista.

Ok, I'm a barista and I no longer want any part of this website. What can I do?
This isn't our intent to humiliate anyone. Any barista who scores below a certain level will not show up. This is for competition level baristas only. If you still want to be removed just and I'll remove you as soon as humanly possible.

These scores are all super low, what's the deal?
Well, this is based on the 0-6 scoring system of the SCAA. A rough breakdown is as follows:
0 unacceptable Fail 0 to 59%
1 acceptable D 60 to 69%
2 average C 70 to 79%
3 good B 80 to 90%
4 very good A 90 to 95%
5 excellent A+ 95 to 99%
6 extraordinary A+++ 99 to 100%

Hey, I saw Jimmy has this badge and I totally did that too, where is my badge?
Hey, settle down. I'm just one man. Shoot me one of them .
